8 NAMING THE BRIDGE AT THE 158 EXTENSION OVER THE
9 SEABURY CREEK IN MOBILE COUNTY THE MARSHALL JAMES WALTON
10 MEMORIAL BRIDGE.

12 WHEREAS, in honor of the life of Marshall James
13 Walton of Mobile, Alabama, it is appropriate to name the
14 bridge at the 158 extension over the Seabury Creek in Mobile
15 County, the Marshall James Walton Memorial Bridge; and
16 WHEREAS, he was a graduate of St. Paul's Episcopal
17 School where he was an outstanding soccer player who scored 62
18 goals during his four years there; in 2018, he was named to
19 the St. Paul's Episcopal Athletic Hall of Fame; and
20 WHEREAS, he attended the University of Mississippi
21 where he studied business administration; and
22 WHEREAS, he was employed by his father's company,
23 John G. Walton Construction; and
24 WHEREAS, there is a scholarship at the University of
25 South Alabama named to honor his memory for graduates of St.
26 Paul's Episcopal School; and

1 WHEREAS, he lost his life in an on-site construction
2 accident; he was dearly loved and is sorely missed by his
3 family and friends; now therefore,
4 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
5 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That in honor of Marshall James
6 Walton, we declare that the bridge on the 158 extension over
7 the Seabury Creek in Mobile County, be named in perpetuity the
8 Marshall James Walton Memorial Bridge.
9 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Department of
10 Transportation is requested to determine the cost of
11 fabricating and erecting the appropriate signs or markers,
12 consistent with the applicable requirements and laws, and upon
13 receiving funds from non-state sources covering the cost, to
14 erect signs or markers as provided in this resolution in
15 recognition of this memorial designation.
