STATE OF ALASKA BILL NO. SB 62
2023 LEGISLATIVE SESSION
Analysis
The bill amends Division of Motor Vehicle (DMV) statutes to add a definition for electric‐assisted bicycles. The bill
establishes that electric‐assisted bicycles are not considered motor vehicles, which precludes them from registration under
title 28. The bill also separates an electric‐assisted bicycle from a motor‐driven cycle, which includes motorcycles, motor
scooters, and motorized bicycles.
Historically, DMV has not registered these bicycles and this bill would clarify that DMV would not register electric‐assisted
bicycles. There is no financial or operational impact to the DMV and therefore, DMV submits a zero‐fiscal note.
