FISCAL NOTE ANALYSIS
STATE OF ALASKA BILL NO. SB37
2024 LEGISLATIVE SESSION
Analysis
This bill amends AS 28.35 by adding AS 28.35.248 Airbag Fraud and makes it a crime to knowing sell, import, install, or
reinstall a replacement airbag that does not comply with federal safety regulations specific to the vehicle’s make, model,
and year.
Airbag fraud would be a class A misdemeanor or a class C felony if death or serious physical injury to another person
results from the manufacture, sale, importation, installation, or reinstallation of a replacement airbag.
This bill may result in additional investigative steps for Alaska State Troopers; but DPS anticipates the impact can be
absorbed with existing resources.
