A BILL
FOR AN ACT ENTITLED
1 "An Act relating to moving the site of the capital."
2 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:
3 * Section 1. The uncodified law of the State of Alaska is amended by adding a new section
4 to read:
5 LEGISLATIVE FINDINGS. (a) In 1906, the territorial state capital was moved from
6 Sitka to Juneau to be located near the state's major population center.
7 (b) In 1974, citizens of the state voted to move the location of the state capital to the
8 state's road system to be reasonably located near the geographic and population centers of the
9 state.
10 (c) In 1976, voters chose Willow to be the location of the new capital as the
11 compromise location between Anchorage and Fairbanks, the two major population centers of
12 the state.
13 * Sec. 2. AS 44.06.010 is amended to read:
14 Sec. 44.06.010. Site of capital. The capital of the state is at the census-
15 designated place of Willow [CITY OF JUNEAU], Alaska.
