A BILL
FOR AN ACT ENTITLED
1 "An Act establishing Juneteenth Day as a legal holiday."
2 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:
3 * Section 1. AS 44.12.010(a) is amended to read:
4 (a) The following days are legal holidays:
5 (1) the first of January, known as New Year's Day;
6 (2) the third Monday of January, known as Martin Luther King, Jr.'s
7 Birthday as provided in (b) of this section;
8 (3) the third Monday in February, known as Presidents' Day;
9 (4) the last Monday of March, known as Seward's Day;
10 (5) the last Monday in May, known as Memorial Day;
11 (6) the 19th of June, known as Juneteenth Day;
12 (7) [(6)] the fourth of July, known as Independence Day;
13 (8) [(7)] the first Monday in September, known as Labor Day;
14 (9) [(8)] the 18th of October, known as Alaska Day;
15 (10) [(9)] the 11th of November, known as Veterans' Day;

1 (11) [(10)] the fourth Thursday in November, known as Thanksgiving
2 Day;
3 (12) [(11)] the 25th of December, known as Christmas Day;
4 (13) [(12)] every Sunday;
5 (14) [(13)] every day designated by public proclamation by the
6 President of the United States or the governor of the state as a legal holiday.
7 * Sec. 2. AS 44.12.020 is amended to read:
8 Sec. 44.12.020. Holiday falling on Sunday. If a holiday listed in
9 AS 44.12.010, except AS 44.12.010(a)(13) [AS 44.12.010(a)(12)], falls on a Sunday,
10 Sunday and the following Monday are both legal holidays.
11 * Sec. 3. AS 44.12.090 is repealed.
