A BILL
FOR AN ACT ENTITLED
1 "An Act requiring the Department of Administration to allow individuals to execute an
2 anatomical gift when renewing a driver's license; and establishing April of each year as
3 Donate Life Month."
4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:
5 * Section 1. AS 28.15.101 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:
6 (e) The department shall provide a licensee renewing a driver's license by mail
7 or on the department's Internet website under (c) of this section the option to execute
8 an anatomical gift. The department shall provide on the department's Internet website,
9 and in a brochure sent to each person who applies by mail, information detailing the
10 procedure for executing an anatomical gift under AS 13.52 (Health Care Decisions
11 Act) and notify each licensee that, if the licensee executes a gift under AS 13.52 and
12 the gift is made when the driver's license is renewed, the department will transmit the
13 information on the license to a donor registry created under AS 13.50.110. The
14 department shall direct the licensee to notify a procurement organization or the

1 department under AS 13.50.140 if the license is destroyed or mutilated or the gift is
2 revoked under AS 13.52.183. The department shall carry out the requirements of
3 AS 13.50.100 - 13.50.190.
4 * Sec. 2. AS 44.12 is amended by adding a new section to article 2 to read:
5 Sec. 44.12.190. Donate Life Month. The month of April of each year is
6 established as Donate Life Month. Donate Life Month may be observed by schools,
7 community groups, and other public and private agencies and individuals with
8 appropriate activities that increase the public's awareness of anatomical giving.
