FISCAL NOTE ANALYSIS
STATE OF ALASKA BILL NO. HB 123
2022 LEGISLATIVE SESSION
Analysis
This legislation would create a new section AS 44.03.100, recognizing federally recognized tribes in the state and
recognizing the relationship between those tribes and the United States government. This section defines federally
recognized tribe as it is defined in AS 23.20.520, the Alaska Employment Security Act. This legislation would also update
that definition to reflect that the relevant section of the United States Code was moved from 25 U.S.C. 479a to 25 U.S.C.
5131. Finally, this legislation would make conforming changes to the language of AS 44.03.030 and 44.03.040, statutory
construction and reconciliation, to limit application of those sections.
The Department of Law does not anticipate any fiscal impact if this bill becomes law.
