FISCAL NOTE ANALYSIS
STATE OF ALASKA BILL NO. HB308
2020 LEGISLATIVE SESSION
Analysis
The legislation provides flexibility for Alaskans seeking unemployment insurance benefits who have been impacted by the
coronavirus outbreak. The bill would waive a mandatory waiting period before benefits could begin, and would exempt
recipients from the requirement to actively seek employment during a period of up to 90 days. The legislation also
increases the dependent allowance provision to $75 per week for each dependent.
Unemployment Insurance benefits are paid directly from the Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund, and are not included
in a budget bill. The fiscal impact of this legislation cannot be determined at this time and will require additional time to
conduct a comprehensive analysis by the department. The Department of Labor and Workforce Development continues
to assess fiscal impacts of the legislation and will provide updates to the fiscal analysis.
