FOR AN ACT ENTITLED
1 "An Act relating to bonuses for national board certified teachers."
2 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:
3 * Section 1. AS 14.20 is amended by adding a new section to article 3 to read:
4 Sec. 14.20.225. Teacher eligibility for bonus payments. (a) The department
5 shall create a system that provides an annual bonus of not less than $10,000 a year for
6 a person who
7 (1) is employed as a classroom teacher in a public school in the state;
8 and
9 (2) has current national board certification as a teacher.
10 (b) Payment of a bonus under this section does not affect the employment
11 status of the person receiving the bonus or in any way make the person an employee of
12 the state.
