FISCAL NOTE ANALYSIS
STATE OF ALASKA BILL NO. SB 218
2020 LEGISLATIVE SESSION
Analysis
SB 218 amends AS 29.65.450(c), which sets voting rules for the abolishment, replacement, or consolidation of service
areas that provide road, fire protection, or parks and recreation services.
The legislation creates a new subsection stating that the voting rules do not apply in a second class borough to
abolishment of a road service area or consolidation of two or more road service areas if two or more service area boards
request service area consolidation for the purpose of creating a single new service area that includes all of the parcels
from the consolidated service areas and no additional parcels.
The Division of Community and Regional Affairs does not anticipate any fiscal impact from this legislation.
