FISCAL NOTE ANALYSIS
STATE OF ALASKA BILL NO. SB 194
2020 LEGISLATIVE SESSION
Analysis
SB 194 would require a permit from the Departement of Environmental Conservation for the installation of an advanced
nuclear reactor in Alaska.
The Department does not have regulations in place or permitting staff assigned to oversee permits for advanced nuclear
reactors, however the Department may be able to absorb the work within existing staff at the time the program is needed.
The Department has been advised that the timeframe for these reactors coming to market is estimated at seven to ten
years.
