Analysis
   This bill transfers responsibility for registration and certification of radiologic devices from the Board of Dental Examiners
   to the Department of Health and Social Services, effective January 1, 2021. The department will need to promulgate
   regulations. The Division of Public Health currently has responsibility for all other radiologic device inspections which are
   carried out by a single Radiological Health Physicist.
   There are approximately 2200 individual dental practices currently licenced for radiological equipment by the Board of
   Dental Examiners. Of those, about 1000 are in Anchorage. Due to the volume of devices, the Division will need to hire one
   additional inspector (Radiological Health Physicist, range 19). The inspector will incur travel costs, along with costs for
   office supplies and overhead (phones, rent, utilities, etc.). One-time costs are needed for a desk and workstation for the
   new position.
   Funding for the position will be provided by a reimbursable services agreement with the Department of Commerce,
   Community and Economic Development as part of the fees charged to licensed dentists.
