FISCAL NOTE ANALYSIS
STATE OF ALASKA BILL NO. SB 150
2020 LEGISLATIVE SESSION
Analysis
This legislation repeals the sunset on the intensive management (IM) surcharge in 33, ch. 18 SLA 2016. This proposal
does not have any additional cost to the department. Should the surcharge sunset the department will see a significant
decrease in revenue to pay for wildlife research and management.
Revenue from the IM surcharge totaled approximately $1.1 million in each of the last two calendar years (CY18 and
CY19). Most of those funds are used to match federal PittmanRobertson dollars at a 1:3 ratio. That means, absent an
appropriation for the match, the department will lose roughly $4 million which would significantly hamper the
department's ability to conduct IM activities.
