STATE OF ALASKA BILL NO. CSHB 109(EDC) AM
2020 LEGISLATIVE SESSION
Analysis
This legislation amends AS 14.03.080, Right to attend school, by adding a new subsection that would require a school
district to consider a student whose parent or guardian is a member of the armed forces of the United States or a member
of the National Guard as a resident and admit the student to a public school. The parent or guardian would be required to
provide to the school district written proof of residence on an official document within 10 days after the arrival date
stated in the military orders. This legislation also provides definitions of a "military installation" and "residence".
There is no fiscal impact to the Department of Education and Early Development under this legislation.
