A BILL
FOR AN ACT ENTITLED
1 "An Act relating to special motor vehicle registration plates for combat veterans."
2 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:
3 * Section 1. AS 28.10.181 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:
4 (ll) Vehicles owned by combat veterans. The department, upon receipt of
5 written proof that the combat veteran is a sole or joint owner of a motor vehicle, shall
6 issue special registration plates for the motor vehicle to a requesting person who is a
7 combat veteran of the armed forces of the United States. The commissioner, after
8 consulting with the person in the Department of Military and Veterans' Affairs in
9 charge of veterans' affairs, shall determine the design and color of the combat veteran
10 plates. The department may disapprove the issuance of registration plates under this
11 subsection when the requested plates are a duplication of an existing registration.
12 * Sec. 2. AS 28.10.421(d)(2) is amended to read:
13 (2) special request plates for
14 (A) Alaska National Guard personnel ................................ $30;
15 (B) veterans, retired veterans, [OR] Lao veterans, or combat

6 (E) owners of custom collector vehicles ........................... $50;
7 (F) Iditarod race finishers .................................................. $50;
8 (G) other special request plates ......................................... $30;
9 plus the fee required for that vehicle under (b) of this section; the fee required by this
10 paragraph shall be collected only on the first issuance and on the replacement of
11 special request plates;
