A BILL
FOR AN ACT ENTITLED
1 "An Act relating to election of a permanent presiding officer."
2 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:
3 * Section 1. AS 24.05 is amended by adding a new section to read:
4 Sec. 24.05.165. Election of a permanent presiding officer. (a) If a house of
5 the legislature has not elected a permanent presiding officer within 14 calendar days
6 after the convening of the first regular session of a legislature, the members of the
7 political party that has a majority of the members elected to that house shall elect a
8 permanent presiding officer.
9 (b) Election of a permanent presiding officer requires a majority vote of the
10 members of the political party granted the authority to elect the permanent presiding
11 officer under (a) of this section.
12 (c) If no political party has a majority of the membership in a house of the
13 legislature, election of a permanent presiding officer requires a majority vote of the
14 full membership of the house.
