FOR AN ACT ENTITLED
1 "An Act establishing May 31 of each year as Katie John Day."
2 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:
3 * Section 1. AS 44.12 is amended by adding a new section to read:
4 Sec. 44.12.063. Katie John Day. Katie John Day is established on May 31 of
5 each year to honor Athabaskan elder Katie John for her fight for subsistence rights and
6 her teaching of the traditional way of life. Katie John Day may be observed by suitable
7 observances and exercises by civic groups and the public.
