FISCAL NOTE ANALYSIS
STATE OF ALASKA BILL NO. HB 235
2018 LEGISLATIVE SESSION
Analysis
This legislation amends AS 44.09 by adding a new section creating the North Star Medal to be awarded by the Governor to
certain individuals who die or are seriously injured in the line of duty. Nominations for the North Star Medal shall be
submitted to the Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety (DPS) and, after reviewing nominations, the DPS
Commissioner shall submit the name or names of persons recommended for the North Star Medal to the Governor for
approval.
Passage of this legislation will not have a fiscal impact on the Department of Public Safety. No additional resources would
be needed to perform the activities of reviewing nominations and submitting recommendations for the North Star Medal.
Therefore, a zero fiscal note is being submitted.
