FISCAL NOTE ANALYSIS
STATE OF ALASKA BILL NO. SCS CSHB 123(HSS)
2018 LEGISLATIVE SESSION
Analysis
HB123 authorizes the Department of Health and Social Services to collect and maintain a database of health care services
and price information.
HB123 requires that health care providers compile a list, by procedure and diagnosis code, of the 25 health care services
most commonly performed by the provider and the undiscounted price charged an individual for those services.
HB123 requires that health care facilities compile a list, by procedure and diagnosis code, of the 50 health care services
most commonly performed by the facility and the undiscounted price charged an individual for those services. The lists
must be published, submitted to DHSS, and posted to the providers website (if one exists).
HB123 requires health care providers, facilities and insurers to provide a good faith estimate of reasonably anticipated
charges for treating a patients specific condition or course of treatment.
This bill does not place additional requirements on the Division of Insurance, therefore there is no anticipated fiscal
impact.
