This bill amends the duties of the state superintendent of education in Wyoming to allow nonpublic special purpose schools to apply for and receive grants administered by the department of education. Specifically, it adds a new paragraph (xli) to W.S. 21-2-202(a), which defines "nonpublic special purpose school" as an accredited educational program in Wyoming that is not operated by a school district and provides specialized services to students. The bill stipulates that these schools must adhere to the same application, reporting, accountability, compliance, and other requirements that apply to school districts when applying for grants.

The eligibility of nonpublic special purpose schools for grants that are partially or fully funded by federal funds will also be subject to federal law and regulations. The provisions of this bill will apply to grant applications submitted on or after July 1, 2027, and the act itself will take effect on that same date.
