This bill amends existing motor vehicle laws in Wyoming by eliminating the requirement for license plates to be reissued after a specified time period. Instead, it allows license plates to remain valid until they are no longer readable or visible. If a license plate becomes unreadable, the vehicle owner is required to obtain two replacement plates for a fee, which is set at $8.00 for standard replacements and $30.00 for specialty plates. The bill also provides a definition for what constitutes a plate that is "no longer readable or visible," clarifying that it refers to permanent wear or damage that obscures the identification numbers or letters.
Additionally, the bill makes conforming amendments to various sections regarding the design and issuance of special license plates, such as those for the University of Wyoming, wildlife conservation, and search and rescue. It removes the previous requirement for these plates to be redesigned on a set schedule, thus allowing for more flexibility in their design. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
