This bill mandates that each school district in Wyoming develop comprehensive cardiac emergency response plans applicable to all schools, including charter schools. The plans must address the appropriate use of personnel in response to sudden cardiac arrest incidents, integrate evidence-based practices as recommended by the American Heart Association, and ensure the availability and proper use of automatic external defibrillators (AEDs). Specific requirements include the placement and accessibility of AEDs, training for school nurses and personnel in first aid and CPR, and annual rehearsals of the response plans at athletic venues.

Additionally, the bill amends existing law to require school district boards to adopt policies related to acute cardiac events starting in the 2026-2027 school year. It appropriates $50,000 from the public school foundation program to assist school districts in implementing these plans for the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 school years, prioritizing reimbursement for districts with higher percentages of students eligible for free and reduced-price lunch. The act is effective immediately upon completion of the necessary legislative processes.
