This bill authorizes the state forestry division of the office of state lands and investments to create two full-time employee positions, with one position becoming effective on April 1, 2026, and the other on April 1, 2027. The duties of these positions will be determined by the state forester in coordination with the department of corrections. The legislature intends for these positions to be included in the standard budget for the following fiscal biennium.

Additionally, the bill appropriates $499,709 from the general fund to support the state forestry conservation inmate crew program, covering the costs associated with the newly authorized positions, including equipment and supplies. This appropriation is designated for use until June 30, 2028, and any unspent funds will revert as per the law. The legislature specifies that $129,255 of this appropriation should not be included in the standard budget for the next fiscal biennium, while the remaining funds will be adjusted and included in the budget. The act is set to take effect on April 1, 2026.
