This bill amends existing laws regarding the involuntary hospitalization of mentally ill individuals in Wyoming. It expands the qualifications for examiners who can perform involuntary hospitalization examinations by including licensed advanced practice registered nurses and physician assistants, in addition to licensed physicians, psychiatrists, and psychologists. The bill also stipulates that if an examination is conducted by an examiner who is not a licensed physician or psychiatrist, a licensed professional must review the findings and conduct further examination if necessary.

Additionally, the bill modifies the provisions for directed outpatient commitment by removing the previous time limit of two years for such commitments. Instead, the court will determine the appropriate duration for the commitment, with mandatory reviews every six months. The effective date for this act is set for July 1, 2026.
