The bill amends the review process for charter school applications in Wyoming by changing the timeline for authorizers. Specifically, it removes the requirement for authorizers to notify applicants of application completeness within thirty days and instead mandates that they hold a public hearing on complete applications within a new timeframe of one hundred twenty days, extended from the previous ninety days. Additionally, the bill introduces a requirement for an in-person interview with the applicant or applicant group as part of the review process.
The bill also clarifies that authorizers can only approve applications for converted charter schools if there is sufficient teacher and parental support, as defined in existing law. The changes will apply to new charter school applications submitted on or after July 1, 2026, with the act itself becoming effective on that same date.
