This bill aims to enhance reimbursement rates for obstetric physician services and critical access hospitals under the Wyoming medical assistance and services act for a specified period from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2028. Specifically, obstetrics and gynecology services related to childbirth, including prenatal and postpartum care, will be reimbursed at 105% of the current Medicare rate, while critical access hospitals providing labor and delivery services will receive reimbursement at 100% of their actual costs. To qualify for the increased reimbursement, providers must offer or refer patients to designated prenatal health programs.
Additionally, the bill includes appropriations of $200,000 from the general fund and federal funds for obstetric and gynecological services, and $8.3 million for critical access hospitals, both for the same two-year period. The Department of Health is required to report on the additional costs incurred by these increased reimbursement rates by October 31, 2027, and any recommendations for modifications. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
