This bill amends the duties of the state superintendent of public instruction in Wyoming by requiring the development of model policies and procedures for student discipline. Specifically, it adds a new paragraph (xli) to W.S. 21-2-202(a), which mandates the state superintendent to create these model policies to assist local school districts in adopting their own discipline policies in accordance with W.S. 21-4-305 through 21-4-308. Importantly, the bill clarifies that no school district will be obligated to adopt any part of these model policies and procedures.
The state superintendent is required to establish these model policies and procedures by July 1, 2026. The bill is designed to provide guidance to local districts while allowing them the flexibility to choose whether or not to implement the suggested policies. The act will take effect immediately upon the completion of all necessary legislative processes as outlined in the Wyoming Constitution.
