The bill amends the penalties for the crime of accessory after the fact in Wyoming. It establishes that an accessory after the fact commits a felony, punishable by up to three years of imprisonment and/or a fine of up to $3,000, if the crime is a non-violent felony and the accessory is not a relative of the principal. Additionally, if the crime is classified as a violent felony, the same felony penalties apply. Conversely, if the accessory is a relative of the principal or if the principal is a minor, the crime is classified as a misdemeanor, punishable by up to six months of imprisonment and/or a fine of up to $750.
The bill introduces specific legal language to clarify the distinctions between violent and non-violent felonies, as well as the relationship between the accessory and the principal. The effective date for this act is set for July 1, 2025.
