This bill amends existing election laws in Wyoming to establish new requirements for independent candidates seeking to appear on the general election ballot. It mandates that independent candidates must affirm that they are either unaffiliated or not registered with any major or minor political party. Additionally, the bill revises the number of signatures required for independent candidates, increasing the threshold from two percent to three percent for statewide and countywide offices, and from two percent to five percent for district elections.

Furthermore, the bill changes the deadline for filing petitions as an independent candidate, extending the notice period to eighty-one days before the primary election and allowing candidates an additional fourteen days to submit their petitions after giving notice of their intention. The effective date for these changes is set for July 1, 2025.
