The bill amends existing election laws in Wyoming to establish new requirements for independent candidates seeking to appear on the general election ballot. It mandates that independent candidates must affirm that they are either unaffiliated or not registered with any major or minor political party. Additionally, the bill revises the number of signatures required for independent candidates, increasing the threshold from two percent to three percent for statewide and countywide offices, and from two percent to five percent for district elections.

Furthermore, the bill changes the filing deadline for independent candidates, extending it from seventy days to eighty-one days before the primary election. Candidates will also have an additional fourteen days after notifying the Secretary of State of their intention to file their petitions. The effective date of this legislation is set for July 1, 2025.
