This bill amends existing laws regarding child safety restraint systems in passenger vehicles in Wyoming. It establishes that children under the age of two or those who have not reached the maximum weight or height limits specified by the manufacturer must be secured in a rear-facing child safety restraint system. Additionally, it clarifies that while children under nine years of age must be secured in a child safety restraint system, they may be placed in the front seat only under certain conditions, such as when the vehicle has only one row of seats or when all rear safety belts are in use. Importantly, it prohibits placing a rear-facing child safety restraint system in front of an active airbag.
The bill also updates the language in the law to specify that children must be secured until they reach the age of nine, replacing the previous phrasing. The effective date for this legislation is set for July 1, 2025.
