The bill amends existing laws regarding the notification and reporting requirements for motor vehicle accidents in Wyoming. It specifies that drivers involved in an accident must notify the local police department or the nearest office of the state highway patrol or county sheriff if the accident results in injury or death to any person, or if property damage occurs to the extent that the vehicle is disabled and cannot be operated safely. The previous language that required notification for property damage of at least $1,000 has been removed, and the definition of what constitutes a reportable accident has been clarified.
Additionally, the bill mandates that police officers investigating motor vehicle accidents must submit a written report to the highway department within ten days if the accident results in bodily injury, death, or if the vehicle is rendered inoperable. The previous requirement for reporting based on an apparent property damage threshold of $1,000 has also been eliminated. The effective date for this act is set for July 1, 2025.
