Salaries and allowances for judges-amendments.

A BILL
for
1 AN ACT relating to courts; amending the salaries of judges
2 and justices to reflect salaries adopted in the 2023
3 general session; striking obsolete provisions; authorizing
4 the award of cost-of-living assistance to judges and
5 justices as specified; and providing for an effective date.

7 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Wyoming:
8
9 Section 1. W.S. 5-1-110(a)(i) through (iii) and by
10 creating a new subsection (c) is amended to read:
11
12 5-1-110. Salaries of judges; cost-of-living
13 assistance.
14
15 (a) Subject to constitutional and statutory
16 provisions concerning when salaries can become effective,

1 judges of the supreme court, district courts, chancery
2 courts and circuit courts shall receive the following
3 annual salaries which shall be paid in equal monthly
4 installments on the last working day of the month:
5
6 (i) Supreme court justices shall receive an
7 annual salary of one hundred sixty-five thousand dollars
8 ($165,000.00) commencing July 1, 2012 and one hundred
9 seventy-five thousand dollars ($175,000.00) commencing July
10 1, 2019 and one hundred eighty-seven thousand two hundred
11 fifty dollars ($187,250.00) commencing July 1, 2024;

13 (ii) District court judges shall receive an
14 annual salary of one hundred fifty thousand dollars
15 ($150,000.00) commencing July 1, 2012 and one hundred sixty
16 thousand dollars ($160,000.00) commencing July 1, 2019 and
17 one hundred seventy-one thousand two hundred dollars
18 ($171,200.00) commencing July 1, 2024;

20 (iii) Circuit court judges shall receive an
21 annual salary of one hundred twenty-five thousand dollars
22 ($125,000.00) commencing July 1, 2017 and one hundred
23 forty-five thousand dollars ($145,000.00) commencing July

1 1, 2019 and one hundred fifty-three thousand seven hundred
2 dollars ($153,700.00) commencing July 1, 2024;

4 (c) Subject to constitutional and statutory
5 provisions concerning when salaries can become effective,
6 justices of the supreme court and judges of the district
7 courts, circuit courts and chancery courts may receive
8 cost-of-living assistance if the judge or justice resides
9 in a county in Wyoming where the average cost of housing is
10 significantly higher than the statewide population weighted
11 average cost of housing. The supreme court shall promulgate
12 rules for the award of housing assistance under this
13 subsection, provided that any rules promulgated under this
14 subsection shall consider any rules or policies promulgated
15 by the human resources division of the department of
16 administration and information for the provision of housing
17 assistance to state employees.

19 Section 2. This act is effective July 1, 2024.
