This bill aims to enhance insurance coverage for breast cancer screenings in West Virginia by amending existing laws and adding new sections to the Code of West Virginia. It mandates that health insurance policies provide coverage for one baseline mammogram for women aged 30 to 39, annual mammograms for women aged 40 and older, and additional screenings for women under 40 with a family history or other risk factors as determined by their healthcare provider. Furthermore, it requires coverage for comprehensive ultrasound screenings if a mammogram indicates dense breast tissue or if the woman is at increased risk for breast cancer.

In addition to the coverage requirements, the bill introduces provisions for notifying patients about breast density in mammography reports, emphasizing that high breast density is not abnormal and providing information on potential risks and benefits of additional screenings. The new requirements will apply to all insurance policies issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2026, ensuring that women in West Virginia have access to necessary breast cancer screening services.
