This bill amends the Code of West Virginia to include a new provision that prohibits the operation of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) over polling places on election day. Specifically, it states that any person who knowingly and intentionally operates a UAV above the grounds of a polling place or within 100 feet of the entrance to the building housing the polling place is guilty of a misdemeanor. Upon conviction, the penalties include a fine ranging from $100 to $1,000, confinement in jail for up to one year, or both.
Additionally, the bill makes a minor adjustment to the existing legal framework by deleting the previous subsection (i) and renumbering the subsequent subsections accordingly. The overall intent of the bill is to enhance the security and integrity of the electoral process by restricting UAV operations in sensitive areas during elections.
