This bill amends the Code of West Virginia to adjust the salary schedules for elected county officials, specifically county commissioners, by establishing new salary rates effective after June 30, 2026. The bill deletes the previous effective date of July 1, 2022, and inserts a new effective date of July 1, 2026, for the increased salaries. The new salary rates for county commissioners will be as follows: Class I will receive $53,731, Class II will receive $52,772, Class III will receive $51,813, Class IV will receive $50,853, Class V will receive $49,893, Class VI will receive $41,259, Class VII will receive $40,298, Class VIII will receive $36,461, Class IX will receive $35,500, and Class X will receive $28,785.

Additionally, the bill outlines the requirements that must be met before these increased salaries can be paid, including certification from the Auditor regarding the county's fiscal condition and a written request for the salary increase from the elected officials. If the Auditor does not certify sufficient funds for the salary increase, the salaries will remain at their current levels. The bill aims to ensure that the compensation for elected county officials reflects their responsibilities and the financial health of the counties they serve.
