This bill amends the Code of West Virginia to enhance the support provided to unemployment claimants by allowing Workforce West Virginia to share job openings from private employers directly with individuals applying for or receiving unemployment benefits. The new provisions specify that these job referrals can be tailored to match the claimants' previous job history and salary ranges. Additionally, the bill establishes a process for Workforce West Virginia to facilitate contact between employers and job seekers, ensuring that individuals are responsive to job referrals.
The bill also outlines the responsibilities of both claimants and employers regarding job referrals. Claimants are required to apply for suitable jobs within one week of receiving referrals and must accept offers of employment if extended. Employers are mandated to report any refusals of job offers by claimants, as well as any claimants who leave or are dismissed from employment within six weeks. Furthermore, individuals who accept part-time positions that pay less than their weekly benefit rate can continue to receive their unemployment benefits without reduction. The provisions of this bill are set to take effect on July 1, 2024.
