This bill amends the Code of West Virginia by adding new sections that require health insurance policies to cover dietary supplements. Specifically, it introduces definitions and coverage requirements for dietary supplements across various chapters, including the West Virginia Public Employees Insurance Act, Human Services, and Insurance. The bill defines a dietary supplement in accordance with the federal Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994, specifying that it must be intended to supplement the diet and not be represented as a conventional food.

Effective January 1, 2027, any health insurance policy, plan, or contract issued or renewed must provide coverage or reimbursement for dietary supplements as recommended by the enrollee's healthcare provider. The overarching goal of the bill is to promote health, reduce healthcare costs, and offer non-pharmacological alternatives to enrollees, thereby enhancing nutritional wellness and preventive care.
