This bill aims to establish a public awareness campaign regarding the threat of mold in indoor environments in West Virginia. It introduces a new article to the Code of West Virginia, which includes definitions related to mold, mold remediation, and third-party certification. The Department of Public Health is tasked with creating a campaign to educate the public about the dangers of mold, providing resources for mold testing and remediation, and conducting a review every five years to assess new scientific evidence regarding mold's health risks.

Additionally, the bill mandates the Department to adopt rules within one year to ensure that entities providing mold remediation services register with the state and demonstrate financial responsibility, as well as proof that at least one direct supervisor has an active third-party certification. Furthermore, all mold remediation activities must adhere to the ANSI/IICRC S520 Standard for Professional Mold Remediation or an equivalent standard approved by the Department, thereby establishing a standard of care for mold remediation in the state.
