The resolution recognizes the 175th anniversary of Wheeling Hospital, the oldest hospital in West Virginia, which was founded on March 12, 1850, by Bishop Richard Whelan and Dr. Simon Hullihen. Over the years, the hospital has expanded significantly, increasing its capacity and introducing innovative healthcare services, including the establishment of an outpatient department, intensive care unit, and cardiac catheterization laboratory. Wheeling Hospital has played a crucial role in responding to public health crises and has supported military efforts during wartime, demonstrating its long-standing commitment to the health and well-being of the community.

The Senate expresses its appreciation for the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston for its foundational role and ongoing support of the hospital, as well as for the contributions of WVU Medicine in enhancing healthcare services at Wheeling Hospital. The resolution highlights the hospital's rich history and its potential for future growth, ensuring that it will continue to provide innovative healthcare solutions for generations of West Virginians. A copy of the resolution will be forwarded to Bishop Mark E. Brennan and Mr. Douglass Harrison, the President and CEO of Wheeling Hospital, Inc.
