This bill amends West Virginia Code ยง20-2-5j to allow hunters to use dogs equipped with remote-controlled electronic collars for tracking mortally wounded deer, elk, turkey, wild boar, or bear. The proposed changes include the insertion of language that permits the use of "dogs remotely controlled by an electric dog collar" alongside traditional leashed dogs for tracking purposes. Additionally, it clarifies that maintaining physical control of the dogs includes the use of an electric remote-controlled collar.

The bill also stipulates that tracking with these dogs is considered hunting, and both the hunter and the dog handler must adhere to all relevant laws and regulations. It is illegal for hunters or handlers to track these animals without a valid hunting license, and only the hunter may kill the mortally wounded animal, although a designated handler may do so if the hunter is physically unable to accompany them. Furthermore, any dog handler offering tracking services for profit must be licensed as an outfitter or guide.
