The bill amends the Code of West Virginia by establishing a new full-time position titled the Dementia Services Director within the Department of Health. This position is tasked with coordinating the implementation of the State Alzheimer's Disease and Other Dementia Plan, evaluating the coordination of dementia services, and making recommendations to enhance the efficiency and quality of care for individuals living with dementia and their caregivers. The Director will also identify duplicated services, seek grant opportunities, support staff training, and recommend strategies to improve access to dementia-related services.
Additionally, the Dementia Services Director will be responsible for promoting public awareness and education regarding dementia, collecting and monitoring relevant data, and compiling an annual report on the implementation status of the state plan and related funding. This new role aims to improve the overall quality of life for those affected by dementia in West Virginia and ensure better service delivery across public and private entities. The bill is set to take effect 90 days after its passage, which is on July 10, 2025.
