The bill amends the Code of West Virginia by establishing a new section, 16-5R-9, which creates a full-time, permanent position for a Dementia Services Director within the Department of Health. This director will be responsible for coordinating the implementation of the State Alzheimer's Disease and Other Dementia Plan, evaluating the coordination of dementia services, and making recommendations to improve the efficiency and quality of care for individuals living with dementia and their caregivers. The director will also identify duplicated services, seek grant opportunities, support staff training, and recommend strategies to enhance access to dementia-related services.

Additionally, the Dementia Services Director will promote public awareness and education regarding dementia, collect and monitor relevant data, and compile an annual report detailing the implementation status of the state plan and funding efforts. This position aims to enhance the quality of life for those affected by dementia in West Virginia and ensure better service delivery across public and private entities. The bill is set to take effect 90 days after its passage on April 12, 2025.
