Edward Leo Blake, serving in the U.S. Navy, perished with the loss of the U.S.S. Cyclops in March 1918, while William Thomas Blake was killed in action at Argonne Forest, France, on October 21, 1918. Catherine Blake is recognized as one of the few Double Gold Star Mothers in America at the time of her loss and is believed to be the only one in Marshall County.

The resolution further requests that the Division of Highways erect signs along this stretch of roadway to clearly identify it as the "Gold Star Mother Catherine Blake Highway," ensuring that her legacy and the sacrifices of her sons are commemorated. A copy of the resolution will be forwarded to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways for implementation.
