This bill amends the West Virginia State Police Retirement System by allowing all members, including those who joined after July 1, 2015, to use their accrued annual or sick leave days to acquire additional credited service toward retirement. The bill clarifies that one leave day is equivalent to eight hours and establishes a new calculation method for converting leave days into retirement service credit. Specifically, members can receive two workdays of credit for each day of accrued leave, with a full month of retirement service credit equating to 20 workdays. Any remainder of 10 workdays or more will count as a full month, while less than 10 will not be credited.

Additionally, the bill removes the previous restriction that prohibited members who joined the retirement system after July 1, 2015, from using their accrued leave for additional credited service. Instead, these members will now be able to use their leave days at retirement, with the new provision granting one day of credit for each day of accrued leave. This change aims to provide equitable retirement benefits to all members of the State Police retirement system.
