SENATE RESOLUTION 71(By Senators Stover, Hamilton, and Caputo)[Introduced March 7, 2024] Congratulating Kerri-Anne Cook on her remarkable high school golf career and for becoming the first female golfer in West Virginia history to win the WVSSAC AA state golf tournament.Whereas, On October 4, 2023, on the Speidel Course at Oglebay Resort in Wheeling, West Virginia, Kerri-Anne Cook shot a two-day total of 152, making her the first female golfer in West Virginia history to win the WVSSAC AA state golf tournament; andWhereas, In 2023, after finishing in the top-10 the previous two years, Kerri-Anne Cook, a senior at West Side High School in Wyoming County, West Virginia, competed in her third state championship as a team member of the Westside High School golf team; andWhereas, For the third straight year, Kerri-Anne earned the Girl's Junior Player of the Year.  She had seven Callaway Junior Tour wins and was the WV Junior Amateur Champion. In the Ladies Scramble Championship, she was runner-up and placed second in the WV Junior Match Play, and then finishing in the top 10 at the 100th WV Women's Amateur Championship.  She was also a member of the North-South Invitational and was the first female champion at the WVSSAC High School State Golf Championship; andWhereas, Head coach Jeremy Warrix credits Kerri-Anne's success with her incredible work ethic, having a strength coach, and the numerous hours of practice she has put into her love of the game; andWhereas, Kerri-Anne Cook's interest in golf began at the age of three when she began playing with her dad and brothers. Her passion for the game of golf grew during the ensuing years as she dedicated herself to perfecting her craft through hard work, training, and determination; andWhereas, On December 6, 2023, Kerri-Anne Cook signed a letter of intent and will be staying in the Mountain State to attend Glenville State University and continue her golf career; therefore, be itResolved by the Senate:That the Senate hereby congratulates Kerri-Anne Cook on her remarkable high school golf career and for becoming the first female golfer in West Virginia history to win the WVSSAC AA state golf tournament; and, be itFurther Resolved, That the Senate hereby extends its best wishes to Kerri-Anne Cook as she pursues her education and continues her golf career at Glenville State University; and, be itFurther Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to Kerri-Anne Cook.
