SENATE RESOLUTION 69(By Senators Rucker, Caputo, and Hamilton)[Introduced March 6, 2024] Recognizing the month of March as National Social Work Awareness Month.Whereas, Since 1984, when then President Ronald Reagan officially recognized March as National Social Workers Month, it has been observed annually.  This year their chosen theme is Empowering Social Workers; andWhereas, This month-long awareness campaign is to inform the public and legislators about social workers and how they have overcome obstacles when it comes to the services they provide; andWhereas, Social workers make positive impacts through their efforts in hospitals, mental health centers, case management counseling, and crisis intervention to mention a few areas; andWhereas, The West Virginia Department of Human Services provides counseling and lifesaving services to all West Virginians.  Clinical social workers assist individuals and families by diagnosing and treating their mental, behavioral, and emotional problems as well as providing resources for continuing good mental health; andWhereas, The Department of Human Services employs social workers that address the diverse and critical needs of individuals and families across West Virginia, such as providing adult residential support, children's foster care, and home and community-based resources, all of which are provided to create a safe and secure environment; therefore, be itResolved by the Senate:That the Senate recognizes the month of March as National Social Work Awareness Month; and, be itFurther Resolved, That the Senate honors the invaluable services and contributions made by the West Virginia Department of Human Services, which includes the Bureau for Social Services, Bureau for Medical Services, Bureau for Child Support Enforcement, Bureau for Family Assistance, Bureau for Behavioral Health, Office of Drug Control Policy, Commission to Study Residential Placement of Children, Family Protection Services Board, Catastrophic Illness Commission, the West Virginia Women's Commission, and all of the social workers in West Virginia; and, be itFurther Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the West Virginia Department of Human Services.
