SENATE RESOLUTION 35(By Senators Stover, Hamilton, Caputo, Queen, Karnes, and Plymale)[Introduced February 12, 2024] Recognizing the 152nd anniversary of Glenville State University.Whereas, In February of 1872, the West Virginia Legislature passed Senate Bill 52, which allowed passage for a branch of the West Virginia State Normal School to be established at Glenville; andWhereas, The Glenville Branch of the West Virginia State Normal School was originally founded in order to serve the educational needs of West Virginia citizens by preparing teachers to serve in classrooms across the state; andWhereas, Glenville State University has expanded its mission to now prepare students for careers, not only in teaching, but in business, land resources, criminal justice, music and art, health sciences, language arts, and human services; andWhereas, Glenville State University continues to be essential to the educational and economic vitality of central West Virginia and beyond through a variety of educational and professional degrees at the associate, baccalaureate, and master’s levels; andWhereas, Glenville State University continues to be a vital resource and provides support for many first generation, rural college students, students of modest means, and students who enter college still uncertain of their educational career pathways; andWhereas, Throughout their 152-year history, the faculty and staff of Glenville State University have served its students with distinction through an individualized, career-focused approach; andWhereas, Glenville State University has created an environment that inspires each of its students, employees, and alumni to support their communities through financial acts, volunteering, and being mentors; therefore, be itResolved by the Senate:That the Senate hereby recognizes the 152nd anniversary of Glenville State University; and, be itFurther Resolved, That the Senate extends its sincere appreciation and gratitude to Glenville State University for its contributions to the State of West Virginia; and, be itFurther Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the president of Glenville State University, Dr. Mark A. Manchin.
