1 A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by adding thereto a new section,
2 designated §15A-10-26, related to providing cancer prevention programs for firefighters.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
ARTICLE 10. FIRE MARSHAL.
§15A-10-26. Cancer prevention programs for firefighters.
1 (a) During the annual periodic health assessment of each firefighter, the state shall
2 provide, at no cost, to the firefighter appropriate medical testing and related services to detect,
3 document the presence or absence of, and prevent, certain cancers using available multi-cancer
4 early detection testing.
5 (b) The state shall jointly establish a voluntary program through which firefighting
6 personnel may share with the Department of Human Services the results of multi-cancer early
7 detection testing or other forms of preventative tests in order to identify any trends or causes of
8 cancer in such personnel. Any such results shall be shared in an anonymized, de-identified
9 manner that safeguards the personally identifiable information of such personnel in order to
10 prevent attribution to any such personnel of any such shared results.
NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to establish cancer prevention programs for firefighting personnel, including providing multi-cancer early detection testing or other forms of
preventative tests.
