HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 47(By Delegates Martin, Brooks, Foster, Willis, Nestor, Phillips, and Burkhammer )[Introduced January 23, 2024; Referred to the Committee on Technology and Infrastructure then Rules]Requesting the Division of Highways name bridge number 49-020/10-000.29 () (49A137), (38.87524, -80.26413) locally known as LAUREL FORK BOX BEAM, carrying CR 20/10 over LAUREL FORK in Upshur County, the "U. S. Army SGT John Claude Roby Memorial Bridge".Whereas, On March 22, 1949, John Claude Roby was born in Upshur County, West Virginia, to Frank and Freta Roby; andWhereas, John Roby served during the Vietnam War, from December 16, 1969, to December 28, 1970; andWhereas, SGT Roby was a life-long resident of Upshur County, West Virginia, and served his community for 40 years in both the Fire and EMS services; and Whereas, SGT Roby was a devoted family man and married his wife Olene on August 1969. He had two children with wife, and had four grandchildren; andWhereas, On March 24, 2014, Upshur County and the State of West Virginia lost a good citizen and friend; andWhereas, It is fitting that an enduring memorial be established to commemorate SGT John Claude Roby and his/her contributions to our state and country; therefore, be it Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name bridge number 49-020/10-000.29 () (49A137), (38.87524, -80.26413) locally known as LAUREL FORK BOX BEAM, carrying CR 20/10 over LAUREL FORK in Upshur County, the "U. S. Army SGT John Claude Roby Memorial Bridge"; and, be it Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge as the "U. S. Army SGT John Claude Roby Memorial Bridge"; and, be itFurther Resolved, That the Clerk of the House forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
