HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 27(By Delegates Campbell, Cooper, Lucas, Dean, Marple, Ward, Crouse, Ross, Willis, Vance, and Howell)Introduced on January 17, 2024;Referred to the Committee on Technology and Infrastructure then Rules.Requesting the Division of Highways to name a bridge bearing Bridge Numbers: 13-064/00-180.29  (EB & WB) (13A221, 13A222), (37.79965, -80.28023) locally known as  WADES CREEK BRIDGES EB & WB, carrying IS 64 over US 60 & Wades Creek in Greenbrier County as the "U.S. Army Sergeant Jerry Lee Harris Memorial Bridge".Whereas, Jerry Lee Harris was born in Ronceverte, Greenbrier County, West Virginia, was born on September 30, 1951, to G. Hugh Harris and Alice Mae (Moten) Harris; andWhereas, Jerry Lee Harris attended Alderson Elementary School, Alderson Junior High School, and graduated in 1969 from the first graduating class of Greenbrier East High School; andWhereas, Jerry Lee Harris went to work for the West Virginia Division of Highways as an Inspector in the spring of 1970, and enlisted in the U.S. Army on September 30, 1970, serving until June 27, 1973, in the Vietnam Conflict; andWhereas, Jerry Lee Harris returned to West Virginia after his discharge from the Army, and returned to work for the West Virginia Division of Highways as an inspector and Highway Supervisor for the Construction Department, Bridges until his retirement in September of 2006, after which he worked for TRC Contracting, LLC for six years; andWhereas, Jerry Lee Harris was involved in his community and many organizations, including the Old Greenbrier Baptist Church in Alderson, Greenbrier County, West Virginia, Masonic Lodge #70 AF&AM, The Grand Chapter Royal Arch Mason of WV #21, Greenbrier Commandery #15 Knights Temple, Beni Kedem Shrine, and the Alderson Order of Eastern Star #119; andWhereas, Jerry Lee Harris passed away on August 11, 2021, leaving behind his wife of 19 years, Julia (Crawford) Harris, daughters Leslie and husband Dr. Jacob Cayanus of Detroit, Michigan, and Monica Walker of Alderson, Greenbrier County, West Virginia, as well as other devoted family and friends; andWhereas, It is proper to dedicate a fitting memorial to Jerry Lee Harris; therefore, be itResolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name a bridge bearing Bridge Numbers: 13-064/00-180.29  (EB & WB) (13A221, 13A222), (37.79965, -80.28023) locally known as  WADES CREEK BRIDGES EB & WB, carrying IS 64 over US 60 & Wades Creek in Greenbrier County as the "U.S. Army Sergeant Jerry Lee Harris Memorial Bridge" and, be it Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge as the "U.S. Army Sergeant Jerry Lee Harris Memorial Bridge"; and, be itFurther Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
