SENATE CONCURRENT Resolution 1 (By Senators Caputo, Jeffries, and Karnes)[Introduced January 10, 2024] Requesting the Division of Highways name bridge number 25-58-1.03, through Industrial Park Road in Marion County, the "Leon Charles Trader Memorial Bridge".Whereas, Leon Charles Trader, a native of Fairmont, WV, lived a life of distinction worthy of being remembered; andWhereas, Mr. Trader, while attending Monongah High School, made the decision to leave before graduation to serve the United States as a member of the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War; and Whereas, During the war, Mr. Trader would distinguish himself with his honorable service and bravery in the face of danger; and Whereas, Mr. Trader was wounded in the course of his honorable service, ultimately receiving the Purple Heart; andWhereas, Mr. Trader, the son of a coal miner and lifelong West Virginian, returned to Marion County where he hunted, caught many large fish, and spent time with his friends; andWhereas, Mr. Trader is remembered as a friendly man who always had a minute and a kind word for a neighbor he saw at the store; andWhereas, It is fitting that an enduring memorial be established to commemorate Leon Charles Trader and his contribution, service, and sacrifice to the United States of America, to West Virginia, and to Marion County; therefore, be it Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name bridge number 25-58-1.03, through Industrial Park Road in Marion County, the "Leon Charles Trader Memorial Bridge"; and, be itFurther Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge as the "Leon Charles Trader Memorial Bridge"; and, be itFurther Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
